Lesson #1; Individuality? 1990-2009 giclee’ on canvas with acrylic 39 ½” w x 40” h

I pulled this image together from many directions. I studied a little with the artist Charles White, and “stole” the imagery of the outstretched arms suspending a bird on a cord. I used many birds to symbolize how they are all alike, yet different, as a lesson for the human child. Taken often to Mexico as a child, the culture and clothing impressed me. The idea came to paint the tiers of the skirt to represent our world, from the sea to the sky above it. I gave it all a clean mandala shape to express a reverence for this life and world.
